How much does it cost to travel from Toronto to Kathmandu?
Hey all I'm frustrating to organize a solo trip from Toronto Canada, to Kathmandu. What is the cheapest means by which i can travel there and minimize my expenses. I am everything considered going to Kathmandu for a week, and then travelling from there to barcelona spain and living there for 2 months or so.
Question before travelling to Nepal.. :S?
I'm affluent to Nepal in a week for a fortnight of volunteer work. The weekends will be spent walking around Kathmandu.
I don't know what to fetch. I'm used to packing my entire wardrobe in a large suitcase but I'm not sure wat I should wear while I'm in Nepal. I sympathy I'd take a few pairs of shorts and vests but was then told by a friend that that probably wouldn't be best for walking around in Nepal.
Also, I'm planning on intriguing my 50l camping rucksack as carry on luggage and a small suitcase. Would I be better off taking a hold-all as my after-in luggage?
Wat sort of clothes should I wear?
Take tonsof sterile towlettes, their sanitary system is nonexistant, its a room with a pipe coming out that you aim for........so lots of sanitary makings. Clothing that is easy to layer and unlayer. fabric that repells dirt, lots of disposible ersatz gloves. Lovely place, jsut they dont understand sanitary needs, and dont prepare for any. Take as little, and as light luggage, dirt roads prevail, back packs are best. Put in donated shoes if you have range, the children need shoes in Nepal, I have donated to a man who yearly takes simply shoes to his homeland. You can always buy those plasitc turn flops or foam ones and bring a few pairs with you, that would be kind. Its a country full of wonderful people, how kind of you to volunteer, they need the help there, and they appriciate it too.

pair of short shoes: walking around Kathmandu, if you have to walk long distances. ( can be bought in Kathmandu, branded shoes and others - At Sherpa Mall, Kings way drive, Kathmandu.
Pair of flip flops: for short distance quick and easy walks, (can be bought in Kathmandu - At Thamel)
Outpouring coat/water proof trousers and jackets: since this is monsoon,
Shorts and sleeveless/vests: this is most interesting and there's no such things that you would provoke locals with your appearance, just use a common sense not to walk naked or with bikini ..hehe .. others you can get into anything !!!
do not worry about toilets, hotels here have pretty good ones, unless you are staying in cheap hotels, and if you have to go out from Kathmandu you can buy grooming paper, liquid hand wash, personal towels, Shampoos, soaps, everything branded to close by, can be bought in Kathmandu. You can bring water sanitizer though you can buy good quality mineral water but you must know which label to buy and buy from decent shop.
rucksack is useful for walking more than a day out from Kathmandu.
Bring good quality pollution masks for walking around Kathmandu.
pinch amount of summer cloths. try making it as less as possible.
You might require transportation, or you volunteer organization would provide it if not you can request for it at your hotel or any tour agencies but only deal with good one..do not go after cheap service provider unless you want to suffer and bemoan...:)
Sunglasses, sun block cream ( SPF 15 - 20 in Kathmandu and 25 out side Kathmandu), hat/cap

Do I need a visa for a few hours stop over in India?
I will be flying from Kathmandu Tribhuvan to Bankok Universal airport via a stop over in either Calcutta or Delhi. Am I OK without a visa for the stopover? I have no interest in visiting India on this journey and an Indian holiday-maker visa is expensive.

Kathmandu thermals - Thermaplus or Polypro?
I'm affluent to Hotham, Victoria Australia for a snowboarding trip which has prompted me to get thermals. I don't want to overheat so I'm belief any thermals should be warm enough and I want to be able to wear them normally in Winter back in Melbourne.
Kathmandu has both these thermals on trafficking, Thermaplus and Polypro.
Both reasonably priced, I can't figure out which one would be better. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thermaplus are about 5% warmer, wick away moisture from husk better and seem alot more comfortable. After washing polypro a few times it seems to lose alot of its softness and gets a scarcely uncomfortable.
