BEIJING — A court in southwestern China has sentenced a man to expiry for a drunken-driving accident that killed four people in what's being called a first for the country.
The 30-year-old man was found regretful of endangering public safety and sentenced to death yesterday.
He was reportedly drunk and speeding in the property of Sichuan province last year when he struck four other cars. Four people were killed and another person was seriously injured. He was also driving without a accredit.
One newspaper reports that the man begged the judge for a chance to start a new life. He said he would appeal.
China imposes choice punishment more than any other country.
Amnesty International says China put at least 1,718 people to death last year. The realized figure is believed to be higher.

What are your thoughts & opinions of this?
Thanks!
Why should he be allowed to start a new life story when 4 people have lost theirs. Its a pity we don't have such a deterrent, instead of handing out pathetic sentences and then imprisoning them at the taxpayers expense.

I am 17 years old.For as wish as I can remember I have always wanted to be a WWE superstar. But after watching the Beijing games...I wanted to accomplish what Phelps did. So I started doing that when I joined my philosophy's swim team. It was fun and I enjoyed it. Anyway I have plenty of time to represent my country in Chicago and get ready. But I don't separate what to do first. Be an Olympic athlete or a WWE superstar. Sorry if I was a little long-winded. Thanks to whoever answers this.

The Dalai Lama will not be met by an accredited government delegation when he visits Lausanne on August 4 and 5.
Instead the speaker of the House of Representatives, Chiara Simoneschi-Cortesi, is perceptive to welcome the Tibetan spiritual leader, according to the foreign ministry.
It is still possible that cabinet ministers will go through with the 74-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner on an informal basis, government officials said.
The child rights group, Society for Threatened Peoples, accused the Swiss government of buckling under Chinese pressure - allegations denied by the unfamiliar ministry.
Beijing has criticised official contacts between western governments with the Dalai Lama in the past.
The Dalai Lama was initially scheduled to pilgrimages to Switzerland and other European countries last year but had to cancel his trip due to poor health.
Four years ago, Local Minister Pascal Couchepin met the Dalai Lama during a previous visit to Switzerland which is home to the another-largest Tibetan community outside Asia.
but "nuteral" Switzerland continues to discompose Israel, as its Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey told Swiss RSR Radio on Wednesday that while she recognizes there are terrorists, Switzerland does not have a shopping list of terrorist organizations because it believes that while a person can be called a terrorist, an organization cannot.
During the interview, Calmy-Rey admitted that officials from her clergywomen met in June with a Hamas delegation - led by former Hamas foreign minister Mahmoud al-Zahar - when he was at an international seminar in Geneva.
The Swiss officials had joined a meeting the Hamas delegation held with former US diplomat Thomas Pickering, a former delegate to the UN and undersecretary of state. Pickering is today the co-chairman of the non-profit International Crisis Group.
Tramontane Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said "the Swiss government, by ignoring the killing and extremist character of Hamas, is again making the wrong choice, sending the wrong signal, and missing an break to side with the moderates in the Middle East."
Palmor said "again" because in April, Israel recalled its envoy to Bern for consultations after Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Pointing to the year-dream of spat the Swiss are having with Libya over the arrest - and later release - in Switzerland of Muammar Gaddafi's son and daughter-in-law, Palmor said Gaddafi last week called for breaking up Switzerland, which he described as a "far-reaching mafia."
"How would the Swiss feel if we invited Gaddafi here now to discuss the matter?" Palmor said.
The Swiss Embassy in Tel Aviv said the Swiss Exotic Ministry had no comment on the issue.
Palmor said that while Israel would not this time recall its envoy in Bern, Ilan Elgar, for consultations, the papal nuncio would make Israel's dissatisfaction known to the Swiss government.
Switzerland is not a member of the EU. The EU, like the US, does think about Hamas a terrorist organization and has refused any contact with it until Hamas recognizes Israel, forswears terrorism and accepts anterior Israeli-Palestinian agreements.
Although there are some voices inside the EU - primarily from Sweden and Belgium - that would like to further these conditions so a dialogue could be maintained with Hamas, Palmor said there was no real concern in Jerusalem at this period that the EU would change its position on the matter.
The US has also not changed its position on Hamas, with The Washington Post on Wednesday quoting US Secretary of Style Hillary Clinton as saying that before Hamas can participate in peace talks, "we have made it clear, both publicly and privately, through all kinds of pronouncements, that we would conjecture Hamas to recognize Israel, renounce violence and agree to abide by prior agreements."
posted again proper because the swiss had to spam this...
